Linking up with This Kind of Love for What I'm Loving Wednesday
I thought a good WILW could help take my mind off the fact that today DC feels roughly ten degrees cooler than the surface of the freaking sun. Seriously, let's eeeeeaaaaaase into summer, shall we? Not go full throttle into 90+ degree days with off the charts humidity and 100% certainty that there will be a huge thunderstorm in time for the evening commute. So I am going to really try here and fid some things that I am loving despite the fact that I melted walking from the Metro to my office this morning.
I'm loving...air conditioning. Duh! But growing up, we did not have central AC in my house (my parents still don't) and I seriously feel like a high-falutin' fancy pants that I have been able to indulge in central AC ever since leaving college. We didn't have AC in my sorority house either...but something tells me my Philly suburb non-AC twin-house upbringing had me a little better suited for this rude awakening than some of my "fancier" sisters ;)
I'm loving...that I finally unpacked (most) of my summer clothes boxes. Thank the lord...I would have had nothing to wear to work this week that was suitable for these steamy conditions. Although, looking at the outfit choices of the associate across the hall, I guess I could have just busted out my regatta wear. I mean, seriously, this is a law firm. While cute, you have no business wearing this to the office.
I'm loving...sugar free popsicles. I can eat 4 of them for only 20 calories? Yes, please.
I'm loving...good self tanner. I don't even want to see my pasty arms and legs, so I can't imagine anyone else would either.
I'm loving...not even bothering to do my hair. Just let it go curly, who cares. I am only going to be pulling it back anyway.
I'm loving...that I actually braved the heat (and this cold that won't go away) to go over to Nats Park to see my Phillies on Memorial Day. I love the lady with the disco-ball hat on that was sitting in front of me (a little to the left....you can't miss her) even more. How hot must she have been? That's dedication! Although I think most of the sunburn on my face might have been just the reflection off of her sparkle hat.
I'm loving...reading actual books again. I had stopped reading for a bit (I am putting the blame on Angry Birds, Bejeweled and Words With Friends) but now I don't think there is anything better then getting home late at night, putting on PJs and pouring a glass of wine and sitting quietly and reading. Or maybe I am just really old....hey, at least they are cute PJs and not a housecoat! Currently finishing up "Commencement" before moving on to "The Paris Wife." Anyone have other good suggestions to add to my summer reading list?
I'm loving...my latest decorations in my office. Now if only I could find some time to actually GET there this summer.....

"The Paris Wife", huh? I met the author at the recent Gaithersburg book fair. So pleasant. A frind of mine is flying through the book now. I can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteI just finished "Bring on the Blessings" by Beverly Jenkins. I'm on book 2 now. Would you consider the Hunger Games series? It is geared for young adults but everyone I know is reading them.
No A/C growing up? WOWZERS!! I grew up in HOT.HOT.HOT South Louisiana so I can't even imagine!
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous hot down here too.
@Nap Mom...I am a bit of an odd duck in that when people RAVE about a book (or series of books), it makes me actually not want to read it. Weird, I know. But I did hear good feedback on Paris wife, so I am looking forward to it.
ReplyDelete@Dee...we did have a few window units, so it wasn't totally barbarian ;)
I am once again how we are twins;
ReplyDelete1. I have tried to pull off short polo dresses and baseball caps to work. Not going over so well.
2. My hair is a frizzy mess. I tried to blow it out this weekend. Poinless.
3. Sugar free Edy's pops are my favorite.
4. I LOVED Commencement and currently reading The Paris Wife right now.
5. I want that dress and just got my summer clothes out from under my bed late Thursday night.
Where we are not twins :(
1. I hate self tanner. The smell makes me vom.
2. MY sorority had central AC. Haha!
I just came across your blog from WILW, and I love it (and your title)! I'm also in DC and agree with you about the heat--where the heck did it come from???
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower!
Happy Wednesday!

I didn't have AC growing up and I live in Hawaii :)
ReplyDeleteHave you read The Hunger Games or The Help yet? I'll have to check out the Paris Wife later.
